INSIDE OUT ‘Mothers of Tilburg’: Tilburg participates in artist JR’s TED Prize Wish

Call to people in Tilburg to send in pictures of their mothers for a big art project

Incubate has always been a forum for collaboration between the public and artists. That’s why in 2012 Incubate will participate in “INSIDE OUT” a project by 2011 TED Prize winner JR, inviting people around the globe to share a photo portrait along with a statement about what they stand for, and the perfect project to be carried out in Tilburg, the Netherlands as well.

Everyone in Tilburg can participate in this project that will reach its completion by pasting thousands of portraits of mothers from Tilburg all over the city between 10 and 16 September 2012. All citizens of Tilburg can send in a picture of their mothers accompanied by a thought or statement about her, either through Incubate or through one of the many participating organizations and people in Tilburg. More info can be found on www.insideoutTilburg.nl.

Celebrating all mothers of Tilburg

“We are inspired to participate in JR’s TED Prize wish and demonstrate the Tilburg community’s commitment to celebrate our mothers, their diverse backgrounds, talents and strengths. We believe in creating art with people, instead of only for people. We‘re hoping we can translate the existing excitement from citizens, property owners and city officials to support Tilburg’s own INSIDE OUT group action. From here to New York to Japan to Tunisia, people are contributing to a global art movement, and we’re very proud that Tilburg will be contributing in a very meaningful way,” stated Vincent Koreman, artistic leader of Incubate, and Lead Organizer of the INSIDE OUT group action in Tilburg.

Throughout the inner city of Tilburg, from the walls of the Theaters of Tilburg to that of the University of Tilburg posters will be placed. By individuals and by groups that are participating as well, like the aforementioned organizations. Everyone can send in a picture of his/her mother from Tilburg with a thought or statement about her between April 19th and August the 1st. The posters will be displayed between 10 and 16th of September 2012.

ABOUT THE INSIDE OUT PROJECT

Inside Out is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images are made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators, for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or as part of a group. Posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window, to a wall of an abandoned building, or in a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and be made available online at http://www.insideoutproject.net/.

The INSIDE OUT project is a creation of the artist JR, recipient of the 2011 TED Prize (watch JR’s TED talk here).

ABOUT THE TED PRIZE

The first TED Prize was awarded in 2005, born out of the TED Conference and a vision by the world’s leading entrepreneurs, innovators, and entertainers to change the world – one wish at a time.

The reward: $100,000, the TED Community’s array of talent and expertise, and the leadership of a TED Prize team led by Amy Novogratz. What began as an unparalleled experiment to leverage the resources of the TED Community to spur global change has evolved into one of the most prestigious prizes.

From Bono’s the ONE Campaign (’05 recipient) to Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution (’10 recipient), the TED Prize is helping to combat poverty, take on religious intolerance, improve global health, tackle child obesity, advance education, and now inspire art around the world.
