Tilburg and it’s surroundings will be filled with 101 pianos in public space.

Imagine walking on a lonely street and stumbling across an abandoned piano… You start by tapping a few notes to see if it works and suddenly people start coming out of nowhere to join you and the sounds you create. ‘Play Me I’m Yours’ is an artwork by British based artist Luke Jerram where he places pianos around a city, free for all to play on. The project has been done in cities like New York, London and Sidney and now ‘Play Me I’m Yours’ is coming to Tilburg. So if you see a piano on the streets during Incubate festival… don’t hesitate and come jam!

Touring internationally since 2008, “Play Me, I’m Yours” is an artwork by British artist Luke Jerram. Over 400 pianos have now been installed in cities across the globe, from New York to Sydney, bearing the simple instruction ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’.

Located in public parks, bus shelters and train stations, outside galleries and markets and even on bridges and ferries, the pianos are available for any member of the public to play and enjoy. Who plays them and how long they remain is up to each community. Many pianos are personalised and decorated by artists or the local community. ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ disrupts people’s negotiation of their city and invites the public to engage with, activate and take ownership of their urban environment.

Each city has a website made for the public to upload their films, photos and stories sharing their interaction with the pianos. ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ has now reached over a million people worldwide. Each new city that commissions the work becomes part of this growing international legacy. The artwork has recently been delivered in Austin Texas, Adelaide and Geneva. In September, the city of Tilburg will be added to this Legacy.

Wiki text

During the Incubate festival, 'Play Me, I'm Yours' will take over the city of Tilburg. Over 50 pianos will be placed in and around the city center. Free for anyone to play them: young and old, professional or amateur. The pianos are a gift to the residents and visitors of the city. The pianos act as sculptural, musical, empty canvas's that become a reflection of the communities they are embedded into, a blank canvas, for the public to express themselves and share their creativity.
