One of the hidden musical treasures of Africa has been around since the seventies and goes by the catchy name of Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou. Their funky Afro beat music is inspired by the rhythms of voodoo, the religion originating from their home country Benin. Two voodoo rhythms dominate the orchestra: Sato, an energetic rhythm performed using an immense vertical drum, and Sakpata, dedicated to the divinity that protects people against smallpox. Psychedelic guitars and crazy organs induce these rhythms with funk and soul.
