Holy State

Like all bands, the Sheffield quartet that make up Holy State have their influences, but they don’t go as far as wearing them on their sleeves; the band prefer instead to daub their houses and tattoo their necks with them. Years of chugging down releases by the likes of Drive Like Jehu and the Jesus Lizard has resulted in a sound that pays strong reference to their heroes. This is no mere imitation however, taking their cues from the new wave of punk bands on either side the Atlantic; Fucked Up, Gallows, the Bronx et al, Holy State produce the sort of glorious, addictive energy that’s been missing from so many recent, home-grown debutantes.
