1 band, 2 nights: today we are honoured to announce a special project from 'The masters of sludge metal': The Melvins. The band is best known for its variation of styles incorporating punk, and hardcore with hard-hitting sludge riffs. During Incubate 2015, The Melvins will perform two unique shows under the denominator 'Two nights with The Melvins' on Tuesday September 15 and Wednesday September 16 in Midi Tilburg.
The Melvins are known as the first sludge metal band that developed a unique sludge sound in the wake of the popularity of Black Sabbath. The band was formed in Aberdeen, Washington (also the breeding ground for Nirvana) and with their oppressively slow sludge sound The Melvins soon served as a form of inspiration for other bands in the area. Just like many other artists in the surroundings The Melvins saw a commercial success in the wake of the popularity of Nirvana. The band however soon realised that they did not feel at home on a major label and made the move to Ipecac Records, a label founded by Faith No More’s Mike Patton. Nowadays, The Melvins still release most of their work on this label. King Buzzo, the singer and figurehead performed with a solo acoustic show at last year’s edition of Incubate festival.
The Melvins' shows can be visited with a Dayticket for Tuesday or Wednesday (€24,99 per day) or a Week Passe-partout. The final few limited Early-Bird Week Passe-partouts are for sale now for € 114,99.
All tickets are available via incubate.org.
Artistic director Vincent Koreman: “It’s good to hear that artists like to return to Incubate because they found the atmosphere relaxed and professional. But we like to outperform ourselves every following year, with more and better unique projects. The wayward vision towards music from The Melvins easily connects to the atmosphere we want to bring across with our festival. That’s why we are proud to welcome ‘The masters of sludge metal’ for two unique concerts at our 11th edition”.
